Treatment Under Sedation

Sedation is available for patients who are unable to undergo dental treatment under local anaesthetic. This may be due to conditions such as anxiety, dentaphobia, heightened gag reflex etc.

In cases where sedation is necessary, a qualified anaesthetist attends our practice and places the patient under sedation. The anaesthetist remains in the surgery, monitoring the patient, throughout the entire procedure.

Generally, a patient under sedation isn’t fully unconscious but in an induced sleep-like state. Most times after “awakening”, patients don’t remember much if anything about the procedure and feel like they’ve just woken from a deep sleep.

Treatments under sedation are also beneficial for individuals who require many treatments and would like to get them completed in one session.

The anaesthetists fee is in addition to the fee for the dental treatment, and is subject to a medicare rebate.
